Devo - Jesus Said 'You're Out'??
Can
you hear the reality TV show host Heidi Klum saying that
– You’re Out! Her show Project Runway has
a slogan – One day you’re in and the next
day you’re out! That’s very true when it comes
to fashion but what about when it comes to your relationship
with Christ? Why would Jesus every say, You’re Out!?
In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus says:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’
will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does
the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say
to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy
in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform
many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I
never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
If that were translated to a modern language, I can
certainly hear Jesus saying “You’re Out!”
But why? These people obviously call Him Lord and they
do “great” things in His name so what have
they done to deserve expulsion from Christ’s presence?
Jesus tells us in the same paragraph. “I never knew
you.” These people are the ones who might say they
knew God but they have never taken the time to truly enter
into a relationship with Him. They get too busy trying
to look the part or they get too involved in their own
lives forgetting to find time for Him. They get what could
be called “Soul Fatigue.”
Do you have soul fatigue? Here are a few questions you
can ask yourself:
1. Do you feel as though there is not
enough time in the day? You get too busy and forget to
spend time with in devotion or prayer?
2. Do you feel as though you have all
sorts of information, but no wisdom?
3. Do you feel like you have choice overload
- all sorts of options but can’t make a decision?
4. Do you have a sense of having a stagnate
relationship with God? Or maybe that you’re on “cruise
control” with God?
5. Do you have a decreased ability to
love? Do you feel like you don’t even have love
to give love?
Soul fatigue creates people who are constantly rushed,
always behind, indecisive, superficial, unconnected with
God, and unable to love. Our society pushes us into a
routine of “hurry.” Before we know it, it
will be our turn to stand before the Lord. And if we are
not careful, His answer to us could be – “I
don’t know you.”
If these questions have caused you to see an inner “soul
fatigue” in our own life, then now is the time to
make some changes! Slow down. Take time in God’s
Word. Learn His plan for your life. Get full of His love
and His grace so that you can give it away. Thankfully,
God’s love and grace is not superficial like fashion
trends in Project Runway. If we really take time to have
a relationship with our Heavenly Father, then I’m
sure we will hear “You’re In!”
Galatians 6:9 says “We can't allow ourselves to
get tired of living the right way. Certainly, each of
us will receive [everlasting life] at the proper time,
if we don't give up.”
