Devo - Jesus Said 'You're Out'??

Jesus Said WhatCan you hear the reality TV show host Heidi Klum saying that – You’re Out! Her show Project Runway has a slogan – One day you’re in and the next day you’re out! That’s very true when it comes to fashion but what about when it comes to your relationship with Christ? Why would Jesus every say, You’re Out!?

In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus says:

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

If that were translated to a modern language, I can certainly hear Jesus saying “You’re Out!” But why? These people obviously call Him Lord and they do “great” things in His name so what have they done to deserve expulsion from Christ’s presence?

Jesus tells us in the same paragraph. “I never knew you.” These people are the ones who might say they knew God but they have never taken the time to truly enter into a relationship with Him. They get too busy trying to look the part or they get too involved in their own lives forgetting to find time for Him. They get what could be called “Soul Fatigue.”

Do you have soul fatigue? Here are a few questions you can ask yourself:

1. Do you feel as though there is not enough time in the day? You get too busy and forget to spend time with in devotion or prayer?

2. Do you feel as though you have all sorts of information, but no wisdom?

3. Do you feel like you have choice overload - all sorts of options but can’t make a decision?

4. Do you have a sense of having a stagnate relationship with God? Or maybe that you’re on “cruise control” with God?

5. Do you have a decreased ability to love? Do you feel like you don’t even have love to give love?

Soul fatigue creates people who are constantly rushed, always behind, indecisive, superficial, unconnected with God, and unable to love. Our society pushes us into a routine of “hurry.” Before we know it, it will be our turn to stand before the Lord. And if we are not careful, His answer to us could be – “I don’t know you.”

If these questions have caused you to see an inner “soul fatigue” in our own life, then now is the time to make some changes! Slow down. Take time in God’s Word. Learn His plan for your life. Get full of His love and His grace so that you can give it away. Thankfully, God’s love and grace is not superficial like fashion trends in Project Runway. If we really take time to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father, then I’m sure we will hear “You’re In!”

Galatians 6:9 says “We can't allow ourselves to get tired of living the right way. Certainly, each of us will receive [everlasting life] at the proper time, if we don't give up.”

NEW: Sharing Your Faith as an LGBTQ Christian

When asked to write on the topic of sharing your faith as a gay Christian I had to take a step back and think about it. I mean, how have I shared my faith since I came out less than a year ago? I have to admit I haven’t had many opportunities to do so lately and unfortunately, the opportunities I had, I backed away from. I was scared. Why? Because I wasn’t firm yet in who I was. I was still figuring out how to live an openly gay lifestyle and didn’t know how to combine the two aspects of myself.

NEW: Got Junk In Your Trunk?

Amazing how we put so much emphasis on our backsides! Some think theirs is too small. Some think theirs is too flat. Some think theirs is too big! Why is junk in our trunk important? Side Note: Remember that old song from the 90’s “Baby Got Back”? Check out this video that has a funny spin on that song. I digress – Back on track - While some people place high importance on an attractive bum, there’s a different kind “junk in our trunk” that can be a total turnoff. Read More >>

Just Add Jesus

Have you ever watched Iron Chef or Hell’s Kitchen? These cooking shows are filled with knives chopping, skillets frying and people yelling! There’s so much drama - all to produce an amazing gourmet meal (and of course to beef up TV ratings). I get sucked into these shows even though I am not the best cook. Actually, I’ve been known to burn my fair share of toast. Once, I even made Mac ’n Cheese soup because I didn’t realize you are supposed to drain the noodles. While simple instructions like “Drain the noodles” or “Just Add Water” are time efficient and basic enough for a small child to follow, they don’t seem to produce what would be called a gourmet meal. Can you imagine if we could just add water and viola - Butternut Squash Creme Brulee! Read More >>

You CAN'T be a Christian?! I don't hate you!

Advice for Straight Friends - What your LGBT friends/family might want you to know.

Tracey was shaking with anger, a gospel track crumpled up in her clenched fist. "I HATE Christians so much!" she announced as our little group continued on the short trip to the diner from the university, quickly leaving the sidewalk evangelist behind. The force of her announcement took me by surprise. I had only been part of the storytelling group at the university for a couple weeks, but Tracey had always seemed so soft spoken and easy going. Is "My God" the One True God?

In our world as we know it today – we have many different religions, faiths, cults, and “paths to god.” Some might say god is a woman, a spirit, a tree or just a feeling. God is our conscience or an evil puppeteer tormenting us as his experiment. As Christians when we speak of “Our God” we are usually referring to Jehovah, God Almighty, the God of the Bible. But when we make blanketed statements about how our God views us or others we must take caution and be sure that we are speaking His Truth and not our own version. Read More >>

Dating 101

When you start dating and fall in love, it's natural to want to express your love in physical ways. God's Unconditional Love - Fact or Fiction

Have you heard of God’s unconditional love? That phrase “unconditional love” is never mentioned in the Bible, so does it actually exist or is God’s love earned by following conditions and rules? This is answered in two keys verses of the Bible John 3:16 and Romans 8:38-39. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16. This shows us that God loved us first – without conditions – just as we are. Read More >>
