| So
many LGBT Christians have been kicked out, gossiped
out, pushed out or asked to leave a church because
of their sexual identity. Leaders have come out
and been removed from their positions. Worship pastors
have been silenced and asked to get off the stage.
Teenagers have been told not to attend youth events
for fear of spreading their “sickness.”
Others have simply refused to go inside a church
because the voices inside are so loud screaming
– “There’s no place, for people
like you, here.”
To those churches – in the words of our
Lord Jesus Christ we say – “Let you
who is without sin, cast the first stone.”
(John 8:2-11) Removing any person from a church
because of their love for another person has got
to be one of the most anti-Biblical, sinful things
we could do as the body of Christ.
This letter represents so many who long to be embraced
by the Body of Christ and to fellowship with likeminded
believers. Yet the church today seems to be “too
good” for homosexuals.
We want to shine a light in this deep chasm between
the LGBT community and Christ’s Church. We
long to bridge the gap and bring all believers together
in unity and fellowship one with another.
So what’s up with the weird name? “Mend
the Gap”
If
you’ve ever been to England and ridden on
one of their trains you would probably have heard
“Mind the Gap.” "Mind the gap"
is a warning to train passengers to remind them
of the sometimes significant gap between the train
door and the station platform. It was first introduced
in 1969 by the London Underground rapid transit
system.
Some station platforms on the London Underground
are curved. Since the cars are straight, the distance
from the platform to the car at certain points is
greater than normal, and the phrase "MIND THE
GAP" is painted on the edge of such platforms.
A recorded announcement is also played whenever
a train arrives at a station, consisting of "Mind
the gap" repeated several times, followed by
"Please stand clear of the closing doors"
and "This train is now ready to depart".
We want to remind all that there is a great distance
between the Church today and the LGBT Community
and sound the warning to MEND THE GAY GAP!
